Carlos Jaramillo
Blending cultural heritage with fitness, Carlos Jaramillo created La Carrera de los Muertos 5k race in Pilsen, Chicago, in 2007. With a mission to infuse the spirit of Dia de Muertos while also highlighting Latino culture into a running event, Carlos aimed to create a truly unique experience. What began with 300 participants has blossomed into an annual event drawing over 7,000 runners from across 31 states. As Race Director, Carlos oversees La Carrera’s seamless execution and growth.
Beyond Carrera de los Muertos, Carlos’s commitment to community extends to his role as Chief Operating Officer at Instituto del Progreso Latino since 2021. His journey from educator to nonprofit management reflects his deep-rooted belief in the transformative power of education and community engagement.
Carlos holds his BA in History with a minor in Secondary Education from Saint Xavier University and a MA in Advertising and Public Relations, with a concentration in Marketing Communication from the University of Alabama.
