The Grace Grants
"
Since its inception in 2022, The Grace Grants have enabled deserving students to pursue their passions in various fields such as architecture, arts, STEAM, and sports. Through these grants, UNO honors Grace's legacy and has awarded four grants thus far to sophomore and junior students from Benito Juarez High School in Pilsen, ensuring they can participate in transformative summer programs.
Each student has received a $1,900 grant to attend the Discover Architecture Summer Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. This initiative not only provides financial assistance but also opens doors to new experiences, knowledge, and opportunities for growth.
"The Grace Grants," is a tribute to the spirit of Graciela “Grace,” a cherished member of the UNO community who dedicated herself to supporting others. Beyond her official work duties at UNO, Grace was known for her empathetic nature and unwavering support. She served as a trusted confidante, offering valuable advice to individuals striving to achieve their dreams. In every sense, Grace was the heart of UNO, embodying its values and fostering a sense of community among its members. As a mother, sister, and friend, Grace understood the importance of nurturing potential and fostering growth in young individuals.
The Grace Grants program aims to emulate her spirit of generosity, support and compassion, and represents UNO's commitment to equity and empowerment, echoing Grace's lasting impact on those she has touched. These grants are designed to break barriers and provide opportunities for BIPOC students to explore enriching summer programs they might not otherwise have access to due to financial constraints.
